As a Tenno who has spent countless hours drifting between the Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis, and the Cambion Drift, I can tell you that conservation is one of the strangest yet most relaxing activities in Warframe. The first time I picked up a Tranq Rifle, I thought it would be a simple point-and-click hunt. I was very wrong. Conservation asks you to become a patient tracker, a silent observer, and at times a very frustrated naturalist.

The fauna of the Origin System suffer from constant habitat destruction caused by the Infested, the Corpus, and the Grineer. When you successfully catch and turn in a species, you earn standing points and a tag for that particular species. Those tags become floofs, which are collectible items I now display like trophies in my orbiter. But before any of that, you need the right gear.

Gearing Up Without Getting Overwhelmed

I learned early that you should never walk into a conservation session without an Echo Lure. If you are hunting in the Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis, or Cambion Drift, you will also need a tranquilizer rifle. The rifle can be purchased from The Business or Son after you earn enough standing with Solaris United or Entrati. Once I bought my first Tranq Rifle, I immediately key bound my lure and rifle to easy-to-reach buttons. That tiny bit of preparation saved me from fumbling in the middle of a hunt more times than I can count.

Following the Trail

When I open the map before a hunt, I look for the pawprint indicators that show where wild fauna can be found. Once I arrive, I search for two things: tracks and feces. The first time I tracked a Bolarola, I nearly missed the droppings because I was too busy scanning the horizon. After you spot the feces, the game lets you track the animal's footsteps. Those footsteps can stretch from a few meters to halfway across Venus, which taught me to pack some patience. Eventually, the footprints end at a call point, shown as a floating gold indicator on the screen.

The Call and the Wait

This is where most of my early hunts went wrong. I would activate the wrong Echo Lure because I did not check which species I was tracking. The correct lure depends entirely on the animal you are following. Once the lure is active, you receive a call sign for the fauna. You need to trace the direction of that call sign with your mouse or controller while aiming down sight. The call sign is small, and if you are not careful you will miss it. Tracing it correctly entices the fauna to approach the call location. After that, I usually wait a minute or so before the animal appears.

As soon as the animal starts moving toward the call point, I activate a stealth ability. Ivara is the obvious choice for this kind of work. Her Prowl ability keeps her invisible, and her sleep tactical arrows can serve as tranquilizers. I cannot overstate how much easier Ivara makes conservation. If you are not using a frame with a cloaking ability, you need to find sufficient cover several meters away from the call point and hope the animal does not spot you.

Landing the Perfect Capture

Once I am hidden, I wait. The fauna almost always approaches slowly, and I can usually spot them from at least 20 meters away. When the animal reaches the calling point, it often shows a weakness. For example, the Bolarola has armored skin similar to an armadillo. I learned to wait until it stands on its hind legs and exposes its belly before firing. That is the perfect moment.

Ivara's sleep arrows will stun almost any animal with one shot, so when I am using her I leave the Tranq Rifle behind. Other frames need a clean shot with the rifle or their own method of stunning. To achieve a perfect capture, all you have to do is stun and retrieve the fauna without being seen by the animal. Missing a shot, or hitting a part of the animal that is not affected by the stun, will ruin the perfect capture.

What I Wish I Knew Earlier

Here are the field notes I keep in my head before every conservation run:

• 🎯 Use Ivara if you want the easiest road to perfect captures. Prowl plus sleep arrows is a cheat code.

• 🧭 Always check which species you are tracking before activating an Echo Lure.

• 🔍 Trace the call sign slowly. It is smaller than you think.

• 🐢 Wait for the animal's weakness. Do not shoot too early.

• 📦 Remember that different variants of a species and different sexes count as separate perfect captures during weekly challenges.

As long as I am not capturing the same species and sex repeatedly, the animal counts toward challenge progression. That little detail saved me from a lot of confusion during Nightwave tasks.

In 2026, conservation still remains one of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day of void fissures and steel path runs. The loop is simple, but the execution demands attention. Every perfect capture feels like a small victory, and every floof in my orbiter is a reminder of the hunts that went right.
